FAIRFAX, VA --Elizabeth Kitley secured a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to help the Virginia Tech women's basketball team knock off the George Mason Patriots 81-52 on the road Sunday.

In addition to Kitley's impressive showing, the Hokies (3-0) were led by Aisha Sheppard, who had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and by Cayla King, who added 15 points and two steals.

Virginia Tech grabbed 46 rebounds in Sunday's game compared to George Mason's 28, led by Kitley's 10 boards. The Hokies also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 13 rebounds into eight second chance points.

Virginia Tech relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 21 points.

Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 15-0 run starting at the 5:27 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Kitley, to increase its lead to 39-21, a score that would hold until halftime. Virginia Tech was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 18 points.

Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kitley, to expand its lead further to 53-30 with 2:03 to go in the third. Virginia Tech played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 19 points in the paint.

Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 77-47 with 3:37 to go in the contest. The Patriots narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hokies still cruised the rest of the way for the 81-52 win.
