KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team has been named a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches 2020-21 Team Academic Award, an honor that recognizes teams with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Hokies are one of 240 men's soccer teams of all collegiate athletic levels to earn the award for the 2020-21 academic year.
Academic success has become a standard that complements on-field success for the Hokies, as Tech has qualified for five consecutive NCAA Tournaments and currently sit at No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
In April, 21 student-athletes on the men's soccer team were named to the 2020 Virginia Tech Athletic Director's honor roll, recognizing student-athletes that receive a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
An important part of the team's success stems from the support of Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) at Virginia Tech, specifically academic coordinator Tim Moore, who arranges tutoring, study halls, and academic scheduling for the team.
The No. 9 Hokies look to accompany their academic achievements on Thompson Field at 5 p.m. on Friday against No. 23 Louisville.
