In keeping with current guidelines related on wearing masks at university events, Virginia Tech will require masks — regardless of vaccination status — for all indoor events scheduled for Cassell Coliseum. Such events include wrestling matches, men's and women's basketball games, and the 2021 fall commencement ceremonies. Masks are already required to be worn for volleyball matches within Cassell.
Proof of vaccination or a negative test will not be required to attend an event at Cassel Coliseum.
Masks can be removed when people are actively eating or drinking.
These efforts are intended to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in the region among those who are traveling to and from events while continuing to address the growing challenge posed by evolving variants. Stay home if feeling sick. Guests should not attend a game, match, or event if they have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, new loss/change in taste or smell, or have recently tested positive for COVID-19. Continued cooperation and adherence to the university mitigation strategies brings us closer to a time when there will no longer need for these measures.
The university will continue to evaluate risk, informed by public health information and data, with a goal of a return to normalcy that is protective of the health and safety of our community.
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is a contagious disease that can lead to severe illness. By attending an athletic event at Virginia Tech the individual assumes all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
