BLACKSBURG – Leading up to the eighth game of the season against Georgia Tech, select Virginia Tech football players met with the media for a press conference on Tuesday. Read what they had to say below.
LINEBACKER DAX HOLLIFIELD
On what stands out about Georgia Tech:
"A lot of read option. Their quarterback is a dynamic runner. We're going to have to take good angles and tackle in space. Their running back is a stud, No. 1 is really good. So, we have to shut down the run game."
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN NORELL POLLARD
On what gives him confidence:
"Just like Coach [Justin] Fuente said, we played our worse game on defense last week. For six weeks straight we were playing lights out. So, it's just not getting lazy with the techniques, not getting lazy with the alignment assignments, and just going out there and playing hard every day. Knowing it gets rough because we're losing. But just knowing it's a blessing just to be out there all together, because you've got guys like James Mitchell not able to play, you've just got to do it for them."
WIDE RECEIVER TAYVION ROBINSON
On what kind of spark running back Malachi Thomas gives to the offense:
"A huge spark, it also helps everyone's confidence. When he can run the ball well and the offensive line is doing their job, then Braxton [Burmeister] can throw the ball to us and we're doing our job and the cycle is just clicking, it's just like a machine."
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN BROCK HOFFMAN
On the difference in the running game on Saturday:
"I just brought the group together after practice and I just told them, listen we're going to do everything we can this week and put as much extra work as we can. Just really build that mindset that we're going to go out there and run the ball. We're going to do what we're used to doing for years. It was just that mindset going in."
