BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will begin its 2021-22 season ranked in the AP Poll, where they were selected 24th by voters Tuesday. This marks just the second time, and first since 1999 that the Hokies will tipoff the season as a ranked squad. They were tabbed 17th in 1999 and went on to have a 20-11 season that ended in the WNIT's second round.

Tech has not been ranked since January 23, 2017, a drought of over four seasons. Tech reached as high as No. 15 in January of 2017 in head coach Kenny Brooks' first season in Blacksburg, where he guided the team to a 15-0 start, the best start to a season in Blacksburg since the 1998-99 team went 18-0.

The Preseason All-ACC Team, Newcomer Watch List and predicted order of finish for the Hokies and their peers in the conference will be announced live on the ACC Network's Packer and Durham Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

Brooks and the Hokies will open the season at home on Tuesday November 9, when they welcome Davidson to Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum for a 5 p.m. tip against the Wildcats. That game will be shown on ACC Network Extra.
