Five things to know ahead of Tech football’s game against Notre Dame

Opens in a new window Gameday Central

Fresh off its open week and sporting a 3-1 record, the Virginia Tech football team welcomes 14th-ranked Notre Dame to Blacksburg for a non-conference clash this Saturday, Oct. 9. Kickoff for this must-see matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. ET under the lights in Lane Stadium.

Saturday's contest will be broadcast on ACC Network. Complete details on how to watch, listen to and follow along with the game can be found here.

Below are five things to know ahead of this Saturday's matchup between the Hokies and the Fighting Irish:

1. The game is already sold out, but fans can still get tickets. The Virginia Tech athletics department announced Saturday's game was sold out back on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Fans still in need of tickets should head to StubHub, the official secondary ticket marketplace of the Hokies. All tickets purchased through StubHub are 100% verified, meaning if fans have any issues with their tickets, the Virginia Tech ticket office will be able to provide full customer support.

2. It's the second-ever Stripe Lane Game, so dress accordingly. Hokie Nation never disappoints when an Effect Game is set for Lane Stadium. This Saturday, fans in attendance are encouraged to wear either maroon or orange depending on their seat location to help create a stripe effect in the outer bowl. All students with tickets are encouraged to wear orange. Fans can find their corresponding color by entering their seat location here.

3. Download mobile tickets BEFORE arriving at Lane Stadium. Guarantee the smoothest entrance into Lane Stadium by downloading mobile tickets ahead of time. Having the HokieSports app on a mobile device and being able to see tickets is not the same as having downloaded tickets to Apple Wallet or to Google Pay. The HokieSports app requires the internet to access a ticket account, but once tickets have been downloaded from the app to Apple Wallet or Google Pay, they live on that device. No internet is necessary to access mobile tickets once they are downloaded to Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

For those fans needing last-minute assistance in downloading their mobile tickets, complimentary WiFi will be available in Hokie Village and at all gates (excluding Gate 8). Fans should look for a network called HokiesTicketsFREE to access their ticket account on their mobile device.

Visit HokieSports.com/MobileTickets for complete details, including step-by-step instructions and FAQ's.

4. There will be plenty of pregame activities leading up to kickoff. Hokie Village will open at 4 p.m. this Saturday afternoon. Interactive activities include tailgate games and an inflatable slide, along with food trucks and live music performed by the Jared Stout Band. The Tech softball team will also be on hand to sign autographs.

In addition to Hokie Village, fans can stop by the ACC Tailgate Tour outside of Cassell Coliseum on Beamer Way and pose for photos with an oversized football championship trophy, play lawn games like the QB football toss and more.

5. Some special guests will be in attendance. During the first quarter of Saturday's game, Tech's wrestling team will be recognized in honor of its 2021 ACC regular season championship. The Hokies completed just the seventh undefeated season in school history, while the 2021 season also happened to be the longest undefeated season in school history at 9-0, one win longer than 1954-55's 8-0 season. Tech won seven of the 10 matches to win the program's fourth ACC Dual Meet title and eighth ACC championship overall.
