SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In the Carrier Dome, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team fell to Syracuse 78-60 on Saturday afternoon in the Hokies' second straight road outing.
Syracuse moves to 3-3 in conference play and 9-4 overall. The Hokies fall to 5-2 in the ACC and 11-3 on the season. The Orange now lead the overall series at 11-5 and have won four of the last six outings.
The Orange received key contributions from sophomore Quincy Guerrier, who tallied a near double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Orange had three more of their own reach double figures in scoring, including senior Marek Dolezaj (18 points), sophomore Alan Griffin (15) and freshman Kadary Richmond (13).
Syracuse recorded eight blocks, which is the most an opponent has recorded against the Hokies all season, while Tech did not register a single block after getting a season-high nine in its previous game. The Orange forced the Hokies to shoot just 32% from the field and 27% from behind the arc.
Despite the loss, Nahiem Alleyne was a bright spot on the offensive end as he had a team-high 20 points and nailed five 3-pointers. Freshman David N'Guessan added 10 points and redshirt sophomore Tyrece Radford had a near double-double with 10 points and seven rebounds. On the glass, Tech grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, which is one of its highest totals all season.

THE GAME
Alleyne came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as he nailed four triples scoring 12 out of the Hokies' first 13 points. Sophomore Hunter Cattoor got himself going with a three of his own followed by Radford with a jumper to cut into the Orange lead. N'Guessan finished a tough layup to even the contest at 21-21 with a little over seven minutes left in the half.
Tied at 21-21, Radford came out of the media timeout and hit from downtown followed by N'Guessan who slammed it home to give Tech a 26-21 advantage. The Orange answered and went on their own 8-2 run to go up in the contest at 29-28. Syracuse did not slow down and gained control late as they went into the break with a 40-34 lead.
Early in the second, forward Justyn Mutts scored the inside bucket to cut the lead to just three points at 45-42. The Orange found momentum which sparked a 13-3 spurt to give Syracuse the double-digit advantage at 58-45.
The Orange were on fire from that point on finding different ways to score and with just under seven minutes to go the Orange found one of its largest leads at 69-50. Syracuse did not let up as they went on to win the contest 78-60.

- Alleyne had a team-high 20 points which tied his season high. Alleyne also hit five 3-pointers, which tied his career high in 3s made.
- N'Guessan reached double-figures in scoring for the second straight outing, with 10 against the Orange.
- Despite the loss, the Hokies grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, which are tied for their second-highest total all season.
- Tech dished out 16 assists against the Orange, which is tied for its fourth most all season.
