The Knights (1-1, 0-0 AAC) split results in their first week of competition. A 4-0 defeat to Florida International (2-0, 0-0 C-USA) provided a temporary setback to UCF, however the Knights responded with a 5-0 victory over North Florida (1-1, 0-0 ASUN) on Sunday.
SETON HALL
The Pirate (1-0-1, 0-0 Big East) and Hokies (1-0-1, 0-0 ACC) are no strangers, having met in May in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2020 NCAA Men's Soccer Championships. Seton Hall advanced in that stage after a 7-6 victory in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes of play.
VIRGINIA TECH NOTES
- Tech is coming off its fourth victory over a No. 1 team in program history after defeating defending champions Marshall, 3-2, in Harrisonburg, Va. on Sunday. The Hokies are 3-0 in their first game after those victories (Duke in 2004, UNC in 2011, Notre Dame in 2017).
- The Hokies are unbeaten in their last four fixtures against ranked opponents (No. 1 Marshall, No. 6 Seton Hall, No. 15 Oregon State, and No. 15 North Carolina).
- Sivert Haugli earned the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week honor for his two-goal performance against Marshall. The captain has played every minute of the season through two games and was named to the ACC Preseason Watch List.
