DiNunzio, Foocharoen pace Hokies at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Behind a pair of top-20 performances, the 20th-ranked Virginia Tech women's golf team placed third at the Wolverine Invitational, which ended Tuesday afternoon at the University of Michigan Golf Course (par 71, 6,232 yards).
 
Senior Keerattriya Foocharoen and junior Becca DiNunzio both tied for 19th at 6-over 219 to lead the way for the Hokies. The Tech tandem both went under-par in their respective second rounds.
 
Making her collegiate debut, Ginnie Lee shot a solid 7-over 220 to tie for 26th. She logged three birdies in her final round to return an even-par 71 to the clubhouse.
 
Alyssa Montgomery (9-over 222) and Emily Mahar (10-over 223) tied for 33rd and 40th, respectively. Symone Henriques competed as an individual and tied for 19th at 6-over 219.
 
Tournament host Michigan led wire-to-wire in claiming the team title at 1-under 851. Virginia took runner-up at 11-over 863, five shots clear of the Hokies. Iowa State (871) and Illinois (878) rounded out the top five.
 
Iowa State's Liyana Durisic and Michigan's Mikaela Schulz tied for medalist honors at 3-under 210.
 
Tech's second tournament of the fall schedule is set for Sept. 20-21 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate hosted by Tennessee. The 54-hole event will be contested at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
