BLUE DEVILS NOTES
Duke (3-1, 0-0 ACC) enters the match after suffering its first loss of the season on Sunday against Seattle. Despite its most recent result, Duke has been solid defensively all season, only allowing one goal in four games. On the bench for the Blue Devils is Kyle Renfro, a former first team All-ACC goalkeeper for Virginia Tech.
HOKIES NOTES
• For the fourth time in six seasons, the Hokies (2-0-2, 0-0 ACC) have started the year with four games unbeaten. The last time Virginia Tech started the season without suffering a loss in the first five games was 2018.
• Saturday's match against Duke will be Tech's first match against an ACC opponent in the 2021 fall campaign. The Hokies are 3-7-2 in their first ACC matches of the season since Mike Brizendine took the helm. The last time Virginia Tech opened ACC play against Duke was in a 2017, when the Blue Devils earned a 3-1 victory in Durham.
• There's been an increased presence of Tech players going forward through the first four games. The Hokies have scored 10 goals, including three goals on two occasions. Last season, Virginia Tech scored three goals on just one occasion: the final regular season match against UMass.
