Thompson announces addition of Sculley

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's tennis head coach Jim Thompson announced the signing of Scott Sculley on Tuesday. Sculley joins the Hokies after starting his playing career at Wisconsin.

A native of Hilton Head, S.C., Sculley made a name for himself in the Big Ten as a skilled doubles competitor. Despite missing considerable time with injuries in his collegiate career, the former five-star recruit has produced positive results while playing. As a freshman, Sculley reached the finals of both the singles and doubles draws at the Gopher Invite. He also represented the Badgers on Court 1 in doubles.

Prior to college, Sculley reached as high as No. 21 nationally and was the No. 3 player in the South Carolina. In 2017, Sculley reached the doubles final of both the Orange Bowl and the USTA Winter National Championships.

"We are excited to add Scott to our team," Coach Thompson said. "His athleticism makes him a great fit for our team, and he has the chance to make an immediate impact in our lineup. Scott will also be a star on campus, as he's a bright young man!"

Sculley's older brother Sean plays tennis at Duke. He intends to double major in Data Science and Economics.
