BLACKSBURG – Head coach Marci Byers announced the 2021 Virginia Tech volleyball schedule on Wednesday, which includes 15 matches at Cassell Coliseum. Byers and her staff are set for their second season in Blacksburg with a full slate of 30 games.
"It's exciting to have a full schedule this season and I am looking forward to competing and getting better throughout the year," Byers said. "Having two home tournaments will be a nice way to get in a rhythm before ACC play starts in late September."
The Hokies open the season with a home exhibition against James Madison on Tuesday, Aug. 17, followed by a home tournament on Aug. 27-28. Tech will play host to Lehigh, Toledo and Elon. The next two weekends will be spent on the road at tournaments hosted by North Florida and Chattanooga, respectively.
Tech will host its final non-conference games on Sept. 17 and 18 as George Mason, Wofford and North Carolina A&T make the trip to Blacksburg.
The first ACC games for the Hokies will be played in Cassell, with a Friday, Sept. 24 matchup against Clemson and a Sunday, Sept. 26 matchup vs. Georgia Tech. After road matches the following two weekends, Tech returns to Blacksburg for a four-match homestand from Oct. 15 – Oct. 24.
The back half of the ACC schedule has Virginia Tech at in-state rival Virginia on Oct. 29 and 2020 national semifinalist Pitt on Oct. 31. The following weekend will see the Hokies at Wake Forest and Duke. Boston College travels to Blacksburg on Nov. 19 for a 2 p.m. matchup on Friday and then the Hokies hit the road north to take on Notre Dame on Nov. 21.
The final regular season match will be played at home for Tech, with Wake Forest rounding out ACC play on Friday, Nov. 26. The match is set for 6 p.m.
The Hokies return multiple key starters and add 10 newcomers set to make an impact during the 2021 season. Byers and her staff look to build off the 2020 campaign that saw a sweep of Virginia and a win over then-No. 14 Duke in five sets.
