BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's golf team has revealed its 2021-22 schedule as announced Tuesday by third-year head coach Brian Sharp.
Ten regular-season tournaments, highlighted by a trip to Puerto Rico, comprise the Hokies' latest docket.
"Our team is fortunate to play in some of the most competitive tournaments in college golf on some truly outstanding venues," Sharp commented. "I believe the best part of this year's schedule, however, is that we are once again able to compete throughout the year, following two seasons of interrupted or canceled play. While we will look forward to the ACC Championship and hopefully a return to the postseason in 2022, we'll remain solely focused on our next event and getting the season off to a good start at Duke in just a few weeks."
Tech will compete in four tournaments hosted by ACC counterparts, including the season opener at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational. The two-day event gets underway Sept. 11 at the Duke University Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina. This will be the first time in four years the Hokies have competed in the tournament.
Continuing into the fall, the Hokies will compete at tournament regulars Battle at Briar's Creek (Sept. 20-21), Old Town Club Collegiate (Sept. 27-28) and Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 10-12).
To close out the fall season, Tech will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for NC State's Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Oct. 15-16, at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Entering the spring slate, the Hokies head to Dorado, Puerto Rico for the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate (Feb. 27-March 1). Traditionally, the Hokies travel to Puerto Rico, but this will be only the second time Tech has competed at TPC Dorado Beach. The tournament will be hosted by UNC Greensboro.
The Hokies return to the United States to compete in the Palmetto Intercollegiate, March 7-8, for the first time since 2008. The tournament traditionally has a deep field of teams that is hosted by USC Aiken.
Next, Tech heads to the Peach State for the Schenkel Invitational (March 18-20) hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia. The Hokies follow that up by going to Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Invitational, Apr. 2-3. The 54-hole event will be contested at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee.
Tech will close the regular season Apr. 11-12 at the Lewis Chitengwa Invitational hosted by Virginia at Birdwood Golf Course.
For just the second time in its history (2001), the ACC Men's Golf Championship will head to the Sunshine State. The four-day championship runs April 22-25 and will consist of three rounds of stroke play, with the top four teams advancing to match play to determine the ACC champion. Shark's Tooth Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida will serve as the host site.
The NCAA Regional round is May 16-18, with the NCAA Championship to be contested at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 27-June 1.
