BLACKSBURG — Former Virginia Tech men's golfer Scott Vincent was named to the official field for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as announced Tuesday, June 22.
The men's competition will be held from July 29 – August 1 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club just outside of Tokyo, Japan. The field was restricted to the top 60 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The world's top 15 players were eligible, with a country limited to four players. After that, players were eligible based on world ranking, with a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not already have two or more players among the top 15.
Vincent, who played for the Hokies from 2011 to 2015, remains Tech's all-time career scoring average leader and the program's only First-Team All-America honoree. He was also a three-time All-ACC and All-East Region performer. He will be representing his home country of Zimbabwe.
Vincent will go up against some of the top golfers in the world which include, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa for the United States. Rory McIlroy and recent U.S. Open Champion, John Rahm, are some others competing this summer for their home countries.
