Greensboro, N.C. – Six Virginia Tech lacrosse student-athletes earned All-ACC Academic honors for 2021 the conference announced Tuesday morning. Seniors Angie Benson, Caroline Allen, Emma Crooks, Leigh Lingo and Paige Petty led the Hokies' contingent with her third selection while junior Lizzie Lohrer was also acknowledged.
Petty was the Hokies' leading goal scorer with 42 goals on the season as she scored 45 total points. She became the program's all-time leader in goals and in the Hokies' 20-15 victory at Virginia when she scored her 200th. In 2021 she had seven games with three or more goals and was also the team's leader in draw controls with 56. A double major in criminology and sociology, Petty departs Virginia Tech as the program leader in goals (204) and points (227) and ranks fourth in draw controls (241).
Benson, who recently competed at Team USA camp, started in 13 of 14 game played in 2021, owning a 12.58 GAA. She made 95 saves on the season and registered double digit saves in four contests with a season-high of 12.
Allen started all 15 contests that she featured in scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists. The attacker scored two or more goals six times during the season, including a hat trick against Louisville. She scored the 100th goal of her collegiate career in the season-opening victory over Liberty.
Crooks, a Second Team All-ACC selection and IWLCA Second Team All-South Region honoree started all 16 games, recording 31 goals and 35 total points. She has 45 draws, 12 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers in the midfield. Crooks concluded her Virginia Tech career in seventh place all-time in draw controls with 177.
Lingo started all 14 games she competed in tallying 22 ground balls and a career-high 13 caused turnovers. At Virginia on February 27 she recorded a season-high four ground balls. On her Senior Day against Boston College, she scored her first and only career goal in her final appearance on Thompson Field.
Lohrer started in eight games and featured in 12 in 2021. The Alexandria, Virginia native recorded 11 ground balls, nine draw controls and seven caused turnovers. She caused two turnovers at the ACC Tournament vs. Syracuse and had two ground balls and a draw at Virginia (April 24). At Notre Dame Lohrer registered a career-high three draw controls.
