Hokies prepare to face Rockets in nonconference series

BLACKSBURG – Coming a midweek win against Georgetown, Virginia Tech baseball is looking towards its nonconference weekend matchup against Toledo at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park with the games being broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (24-17, 16-14 ACC) and Rockets (15-23, 13-12 MAC) will meet for the first time since March 1, 2015. Tech leads the all-time series 3-1 after the preseason tournament in 2015.  

This is the first time the two teams will face each other in Blacksburg.

ON THE CALL

The matchup this weekend will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with Jon Laaser (play-by-play) and Andrew Wells (analyst) on the call, while Bryant Johnson will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network.

Tech is coming off a big 6-2 midweek win against Georgetown. Ryan Okuda (2-2) got his sixth start of the season. The junior went 5.1 innings and had 8 strikeouts, the second most this season. Jack Hurley went 2-3 on the day with 4 RBIs including a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Freshman Griffin Green got his third win of the season.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Jack Hurley has been a shining freshman for the Hokies this season. The Pennsylvania native currently owns a .264 batting average this season in 39 games. The freshman has 24 RBIs this season and has had two four-RBI games this season.
