BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech women's golf, ranked a program-best 14th in the country according to Golfstat, is set to compete in its third consecutive NCAA regional, Monday-Wednesday, in Stanford, California. The three-day event is being hosted by Stanford at the par 71, 6,269-yard Stanford Golf Course.
In just their sixth season of intercollegiate competition, the Hokies enter the Stanford Regional as the No. 4 seed after an impressive Spring 2021 season. Tech never finished lower than sixth in its six events, while posting a pair of runner-up finishes at the Clemson Invitational and the Cavalier Match Play.
Led by the first pair of All-ACC performers in program history (Becca DiNunzio and Emily Mahar), the Hokies bring a 292.4 scoring average to the west coast. DiNunzio (72.53) and Mahar (72.93) ranked ninth and 13th, respectively, in scoring average among ACC golfers. Joining DiNunzio and Mahar in Stanford will be Keerattriya Foocharoen, Alyssa Montgomery and Jessica Spicer.
Six spots to the national championship are up for grabs in the 18-team field at Stanford. The top six teams upon conclusion of Wednesday's final round will advance to Scottsdale, Arizona – site of this year's national championship. Fellow ACC member Wake Forest is the top seed in the Stanford Regional. In all, five teams in this regional are ranked in Golfstat's Top 25.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes of stroke play, 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament via Golfstat.
