BLACKSBURG — Mark Lawrence Jr., a graduate student on the Virginia Tech men's golf team, is making his final preparations ahead of the Stillwater Regional, which gets underway Monday in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Oklahoma State, the No. 1 seed in the regional, is hosting the three-day event at Karsten Creek Golf Club (par 72, 7,502 yards).
The Richmond, Virginia native will be making his third appearance in an NCAA Regional, as he competed in the Raleigh Regional (2018) and West Lafayette Regional (2017).
Lawrence, Jr., the two seed among individual participants, will be one of 10 golfers competing unattached to a team in the Stillwater field. The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship finals. The finals this season will be played May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Hokies' leader in scoring average at 71.63, Lawrence, Jr. had one top five, one additional top 10 and three additional top 20 finishes this season. His season-best finish was third place at the Oldfield Invitational in Okatie, South Carolina.
Tee times for Monday's first round are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. CT. Lawrence, Jr. is scheduled to start his opening round at 9:53 a.m. CT.
