DURHAM, N.C. --Junior Anthony Simonelli was mowing people down on Saturday, striking out 10 Duke hitters over seven innings of work, but it was not enough as the Virginia Tech Hokies lost to the Blue Devils 4-1.
In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Simonelli went seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and walking two for Virginia Tech (27-19, ).
Freshman Tanner Schobel led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 4-for-5 in the ballgame with an RBI. Freshman TJ Rumfield put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Freshman Gavin Cross also helped out, going 1-for-5 for Virginia Tech with a double.
