KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Virginia Tech women's soccer players Emily Gray and Tori Powell have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team as announced by the organization Tuesday.
Gray, who led the Hokies in goals (nine), assists (eight) and points (26), earns her second straight United Soccer Coaches accolade. She earned a spot on the third team as a sophomore in 2019.
The Sewell, New Jersey product led the ACC in assists, ranked third in points and tied for third in goals. Gray was selected to the All-ACC Third Team following the fall portion of the 2020-21 schedule. Playing and starting in all 17 games, Gray recorded 1,400 minutes on the pitch.
Powell became the 14th Hokie to be named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and the first since 2018. Powell's impressive first year in Blacksburg was highlighted by her six-point effort over the fall season's last weekend as she helped the Hokies earn a berth in the ACC Championship.
She scored twice in a 4-3 win at Wake Forest (Oct. 29), including the game-winner, and also had an assist in the match. She added an assist on the second goal in the 3-0 win at Boston College (Nov. 1) to complete her week.
Powell was tabbed the ACC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week and was also on the teams of the week released by College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com following her performance.
The Haymarket, Virginia native led all ACC freshmen in points and was second in goals scored. The Hokies won all eight games when Powell tallied at least one point.
All-Region teams are selected through voting by member coaches in their respective divisions.
