No. 23 Hokies prepare to face Demon Deacons on road

BLACKSBURG – Coming off of a midweek win against ETSU, No. 23 Virginia Tech baseball is looking to secure its third straight ACC series win against Wake Forest at David F. Couch Ballpark with all games being broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (16-9, 11-7 ACC) and Demon Deacons (10-12, 5-9) will meet for the first time since April 7, 2019. Wake Forest leads the all-time series 50-41 and are 30-18 at home.    

Tech has won four of its last five games this season, three of those being against ACC foes.

ON THE CALL

The matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Larry Sorensen (play-by-play) and Stan Cotten (analyst) on the call all weekend, while Bryant Johnson will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies had a strong showing in their midweek matchup against ETSU on Tuesday, winning 15-5. Freshman Gavin Cross dominated in his home state of Tennessee finishing with seven RBIs, a grand slam, and hitting for the cycle. Lucas Donlon also helped Tech with four RBIs and a home run. Noah Johnson (0-2) had three scoreless innings in the win allowing just two hits and five strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Nick Biddison made his return to the Hokies on Tuesday following a shoulder injury in November. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with two walks against ETSU. He has started all 63 games he's played in for Tech and now owns a 24-game on-base streak dating back to April 30, 2019.
