Mitch Harper named second-team All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech men's tennis graduate student Mitch Harper was named second-team All-ACC on Thursday afternoon, as determined by a vote from the league's head coaches.

Playing Court 1 for the Hokies, Harper began the season ranked No. 38 in the country and started 2-0 before missing time due to injury. In total, he went 7-4 on the season from the number-one spot while battling a nagging injury, including straight-set wins against No. 92 Garrett Johns (Duke) and No. 65 Benjamin Sigouin (UNC).

This marks Harper's second all-conference honor in his illustrious career at Tech. In 2018, the Australian was named first-team All-ACC, along with qualifying for the NCAA singles championship, finishing ranked No. 27 in the country, and being named the VaSID Player of the Year.

Virginia Tech (12-9, 6-6 ACC) awaits its NCAA postseason fate following a strong showing in the ACC Championship, in which it defeated Clemson (9-14, 2-10) then went down to the wire with eventual finalist North Carolina (18-3, 9-2). The NCAA DI Men's Tennis Championship field will be announced on Monday, May 3.
