ROME Ga. – Thirty-fifth ranked Virginia Tech left everything on the line in the ACC Championships and came just short of a semifinal berth on Friday evening, falling to fourth-ranked North Carolina, 4-0.

The Hokies (12-9, 6-6 ACC) dropped the doubles point to the Tar Heels (17-2, 9-2) despite a decisive 6-1 win on Court 1 from the No. 35 duo of Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback over No. 79 Simon Soendergaard and Mac Kiger.

Mitch Harper set the tone for the evening with a win in straight sets over No. 65 Benjamin Sigouin, 6-2, 6-0.

Ryan Fishback doubled Tech's tally on Court 6 with another impressive performance, winning in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

The match came down to two battles, Court 4 and Court 5, with Carlo Donato and Hugo Maia both competing in third set contests.

Maia dropped his first set but challenged his opponent Logan Zapp enough to earn a third set. North Carolina ultimately clinched the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win, as Carlo Donato was tied 5-5 in his final set on Court 4.

The Hokies now await their fate for the NCAA Championships in May.
