SOUTH BEND, IND. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team suffered a 15-10 loss at sixth-ranked Notre Dame in the penultimate game of the regular season Wednesday afternoon, played in cold snowy conditions at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
Notre Dame (7-5, 4-5) scored the game's first two goals through Kasey Choma and Katie Enrietto and would not relinquish the advantage all afternoon.
Tech got on the board twice in the opening frame, with Emma Crooks' goal at 16:21 with a nice backhand movement and then again with 25 seconds when freshman Whitney Liebler scored her first of the day.
The Hokies trailed 6-2 at the half.
Virginia Tech, (4-10, 0-8), quickly scored the first goal of the second half through Caroline Allen before the Irish scored six consecutives to open a 12-3 advantage.
From there, the Hokies took advantage of the Irish mistakes, scoring three goals in a row from woman-up situations (Emma Crooks and Paige Petty twice). Petty would add a third goal and senior attacker Sarah Lubnow capped the 5-0 run with a put back goal after Liebler's shot was blocked and she scooped up the rebound and found the open net.
