Danailova punches Hokies' ticket into next round of ACC Championship

ROME, Ga. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team knocked off Clemson in the first round of the 2021 ACC Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Hokies (7-16, 0-13) dropped the doubles point to the Tigers (9-14, 3-10), but battled back in singles.
 
Nina Sorkin carried her match on Court 3 into a third set, in which she controlled the pace and earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win. Shortly after, No. 121 Nika Kozar battled back after dropping the first set and dominated throughout the rest of her match, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Katie Andreini performed like a veteran on Court 5 after falling behind early. The freshman climbed back into the match and propelled Tech to a 3-2 lead with 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.
 
Elizabet Danailova was the Hokies' star of the day, clinching the match and a ticket to the next round. Danailova came through big with 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win for Tech.
 
The Hokies will take on Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday in the second round of the tournament.
