ACC championship journey starts against Clemson

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team will start its run in the ACC Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday evening against Clemson.

HOKIES
Virginia Tech (11-8, 6-6) enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the field and No. 29 in the country. The Hokies split results in their last weekend of regular season competition, downing No. 50 Louisville before falling to No. 35 Notre Dame. 

The duo Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback is ranked No. 35, while Alex Ribeiro is ranked No. 72 and Matthis Ross comes in at No. 97.
 
Tech showed immense grit in its match against Louisville, dropping the doubles point and then falling down 3-2 in singles. Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza earned a win in straight sets to even the Hokies up before Ryan Fishback clinched the ranked win on the road in a thrilling three set match.
 
TIGERS
Clemson (10-13, 2-10) is the No. 11 seed heading into the tournament and currently is riding a three-match win streak. The Tigers have two ranked singles player in their lineup – No. 111 Teodor Giusca and No. 117 Carlos Kelaidis. Clemson also has two ranked doubles tandems – No. 44 Ryuhei Azuma and Jacob Jahn, and No. 47 Giusca and Yizhou Liu. In an earlier meeting of the two teams, the Hokies shutout the Tigers 4-0, in Blacksburg.
 
The winner of this match will advance to face North Carolina (16-2, 9-2) at 5 p.m. on Friday.
