Alexander-Walker shines in March

NEW ORLEANS – Hokie great Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who is in his second season with the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, put together his best month yet with the team this March.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in the month of March, while shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from downtown. He averaged 26.5 minutes per game for the Pels, who are 21-26 and in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

In the month of March, Alexander-Walker posted two 20-point outings, with those coming on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers (29-18) on March 16 and the Denver Nuggets (30-18) on March 21.

Alexander-Walker, who has been going back and forth of playing point guard and shooting guard, has seen an uptick in sharing the rock, too, having five games of three or more assists in the month.

Then he has been pretty steady from the perimeter as well, hitting at least three 3-pointers in seven games.

Keeping his momentum from the previous month, he began April tallying 31 points, eight rebounds and three assists versus the Orlando Magic (17-31) last night (April 1).

The NBA is a little over the halfway point of its 72-game schedule, which is 10 fewer than its normal games played during a season. The Pels have 25 games remaining and will have to do some work to make the NBA Playoffs.
