Fishback clinches match for No. 29 Hokies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second time in as many matches, the No. 29 Virginia Tech men's tennis team clinched a 4-3 win in the last contest of the afternoon, this time defeating No. 50 Louisville.
 
The Hokies (11-7, 6-5 ACC) dropped the doubles point to the Cardinals (9-10, 3-7), but bounced back in singles.
 
Mitch Harper earned the first point of the day for the Hokies with a win on Court 1, winning 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Hugo Maia evened the score up at two points apiece with a win in three sets on Court 4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Alvaro Ariza earned a big win on Court 6, the only win for Tech in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5. 
 
With the score tied at 3-3, it came down to freshman Ryan Fishback on Court 5. The Geneva, N.Y. native came through with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win, sealing another ranked road win for Tech.
 
The Hokies will return to action on Sunday at noon to face Notre Dame on the road.
