No. 39 Hokies down (RV) Florida State

BLACKSBURG – The No. 39 Virginia Tech men's tennis team defeated (RV) Florida State, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
 
In its first outdoor contest of the spring, Tech (7-4, 3-2) took control from the start. Freshman Hugo Maia and sophomore Michael Shepheard earned a 7-5 win on Court 3, setting up sophomore Jordan Chrysostom and freshman Ryan Fishback to clinch the point on Court 1 with a 6-4 win.
 
The Hokies continued to roll in singles. Fishback added to Tech's tally with a win over Florida State's (5-5, 0-3) Sebastian Arcila on Court 4. Senior Carlo Donato looked strong on Court 2, winning in straight sets over Loris Pourroy, 6-4, 7-6. Freshman Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza clinched the match for the Hokies on Court 5 with 7-6, 6-3 win over Marcus Walters. Maia wrapped up the day for Tech with a gritty 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Richard Thongoana.
 
Virginia Tech will be back in action on Friday at 3 p.m. to host Clemson (6-7, 1-4) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
