No. 18 Hokies prepare for two-game tilt against Rams

BLACKSBURG – No. 18 Virginia Tech baseball will play host to VCU in a two-day midweek series starting on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park with both games being broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (7-2, 4-2 ACC) and Rams (5-5, 0-0 Atlantic 10) will meet for the first time since 2014. Tech leads the all-time series 41-29 and the Hokies are 24-13 at home.

Tech has now won three games against ranked foes this year. It was ranked No. 24 going into the North Carolina (7-3, 3-3) series and are now ranked No. 18 in D1 Baseball's poll and No. 12 by Baseball America.
 


ON THE CALL

The matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Evan Hughes (play-by-play) and Andrew Wells (analyst) on the call on Tuesday and Bailey Angle (play-by-play) and Wells (analyst) on Wednesday, while Bryant Johnson will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network both games.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies dominated their first home ACC series of the season against then-No. 25 UNC last weekend. Tech defeated the Tar Heels in Game 1, 10-6, on home runs from Cade Hunter and Tanner Schobel. Schobel leads the Hokies with 14 RBIs on the season, four of those against UNC. Jack Hurley also shined against the Tar Heels with seven RBIs and five hits. The Hokies took the series 2-1, the first time ever winning a series against UNC. 

PLAYER TO WATCH

Hurley, a true freshman from Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, has been dealing for the Hokies in his first season. He has recorded eight hits for Tech, five against UNC alone. He has two home runs on the season, both against the Tar Heels. He is currently batting .296 as the leadoff batter for the Hokies.
