BLACKSBURG – After winning its first series against No. 9 Miami (Fla.), No. 24 Virginia Tech baseball is preparing to play No. 25 North Carolina in its first home ACC series starting Friday at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The Hokies (5-1, 2-1 ACC) and Tar Heels (6-1, 2-1) will meet for the first time since 2019. UNC leads the all-time series 78-27-2 while Tech is 13-30 at home.
Tech's last win against the Tar Heels was on March 22, 2019 when the Hokies defeated UNC 4-1 in Blacksburg. In that series, the Heels won 2-1 after Tech won the first night on Friday.
The last time the two teams were ranked at the same time was in 2013.

The matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Kevin DiDomenico (play-by-play) and Andrew Wells (analyst) on the call all weekend, while Evan Hughes will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies dominated in Miami taking the series 2-1. Anthony Simonelli started Game 3 for Tech and tossed 4.2 strong innings against the Hurricanes. The two teams went back and forth through six innings until the Hokies took the lead in the seventh inning. Gavin Cross and Fritz Genther both hit homers in the series finale, Genther's first of the year.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Schobel, a true freshman from Williamsburg, Virginia., has been performing well for the Hokies. He leads Tech with 10 RBIs in six games, with four of those coming from Game 3 against Miami. Schobel also had three RBIs in the Hokies 22-2 win over Radford. In his collegiate debut against Kent State, the freshman recorded a double and one RBI.
