BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated William and Mary 5-2 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Hokies (5-12, 0-9 ACC), after honoring Nika Kozar, Nina Sorkin, and Shene Disbergen, got off to a great start, winning the doubles point.
On Court 3, Sorkin and junior Annie Clark downed Elise van Meeteren and Raffaela Alhach, 6-1. The Tribe (2-6) claimed the match on Court 1. But Disbergen and junior Rita Pinto clinched the point for the Hokies after a 6-4 win on Court 2.
Tech doubled its lead when Sorkin downed Vitoria Okuyama 6-2, 6-2 to end an impressive senior night. Pinto added to the Hokies lead after a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 5. After dropping the first set, Kozar secured the win for the Hokies after a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win on Court 2 and freshman Katie Andreini finished the day for the Hokies with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Raffaela Alhach.
The Hokies will return to action on the road to face Miami (Fla.) (9-5, 6-3) on Friday, April 2 in Coral Gables.
