BLACKSBURG – After struggling the past few weeks, Virginia Tech baseball is looking to win its first ACC series since then-ranked No. 25 North Carolina against Pitt this weekend at the Charles L. Cost field with Game 3 being broadcasted on the ACC Network.
The Hokies (10-8, 6-6 ACC) and Panthers (12-5, 8-4) will meet for the first time since March 17, 2019. Pitt leads the all-time series 20-17-1 and Tech won the last series in March 2019.
The Hokies are 5-10 in Pittsburgh and have won two of their last three at Pitt.

The matchup on Sunday will be broadcast on ACC Network with Jon Meterparel and Roddy Jones on the call , while Bryant Johnson will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies lost two games in Clemson (8-9, 3-6) but scored big on Saturday in the 11-3 win. Peyton Alford (0-1) started Game 1 for Tech on Friday pitching 6.2 innings and striking out nine Tigers in the 8-2 loss. The Hokies were led by Cade Swisher, Fritz Genther and Tanner Thomas' home runs on Saturday. Shane Connolly (0-0) had an impressive outing on Sunday despite the 4-2 loss. He threw a season and career-high 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Freshman Gavin Cross was recently ranked as the No. 25 outfielder in the country by D1 Baseball and has been leading the way offensively for the Hokies. The Bristol, Tenn. native has 23 hits for Tech this season and is currently batting .359, ranking 10th in the ACC. Cross had four hits against VCU on March 10, 2021 and has had two 3 RBI games this season.
