No. 19 Tech looks to continue hot start at Clemson Invitational

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech women's golf team, which enters the week ranked No. 19 in the country by Golfstat, looks to continue its tremendous start to the 2021 season at the Clemson Invitational, Friday-Sunday, at the 6,471-yard, par 72 The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.

With three tournaments under their belts, the Hokies have finished no worse than sixth and have posted a pair of top five finishes. In its last event, Tech fired a three-day total of 2-under 862 to place fifth at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. All four teams that finished above the Hokies in the team standings were ranked in the top five, nationally, at the time.

A lineup consisting of Becca DiNunzio, Emily Mahar, Keerattriya Foocharoen, Alyssa Montgomery and Jessica Spicer will make the trip for Tech. It's the Hokies' ninth straight tournament with this lineup, dating back to last season. Tech is one of 18 teams set to compete this weekend, including five from the ACC. Clemson will serve as host for the 54-hole event.

DiNunzio (t-11th) and Mahar (t-17th) recorded a pair of top-20s in the Hokies' last time out. The Tech duo has finished inside the top-20 in each of the Hokies' three tournaments this season.

Friday and Saturday will feature shotgun starts at 10 a.m., while Sunday's final round will get underway at 9 a.m.
