Hokies prepared for last home stand of season

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team has its last home mstches of the 2021 spring season this weekend, hosting No. 1 North Carolina on Friday and William & Mary on Saturday.

HOKIES
Virginia Tech (4-11, 0-8) dropped two matches last weekend, falling to No. 8 Georgia Tech (12-8, 5-4 ACC) and Clemson (7-12, 1-8 ACC). Senior Nina Sorkin picked up a win over the weekend against Clemson, downing here opponent, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Katie Andreini earned a win against Georgia Tech in a match decided by a 10-point tiebreak on Court 5, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0. Saturday's match will be Senior Day, when Nika Kozar, Nina Sorkin, and Shene Disbergen will be honored for their contributions to the program.
 
TAR HEELS 
No. 1 North Carolina (17-0, 7-0 ACC) has been dominant this season and is coming off a 6-1 defeat of No. 8 Duke (10-3, 5-2 ACC). The Tar Heels' lineup boasts eight ranked players: No. 2 Sara Daavettila, No. 21 Makenna Jones, No. 28 Cameron Morra, No.37 Alexa Graham, No. 51 Fiona Crawley, No. 98 Anika Yarlagadda, No. 114 Reilly Tran, and No.121 Elizabeth Scotty. The doubles duo of Daavettila and Morra is ranked No. 3, Alle Sanford and Tran are ranked No. 39, Daavetitila and Graham are ranked No. 42, Scotty and Sanford are ranked No. 50, and Kacie Harvey and Tran are ranked No. 79.
 
TRIBE
William & Mary (2-5, 1-1 CAA) is coming off a 7-0 defeat to JMU (6-2, 2-0 CAA). The Hokies have defeated the Tribe in the last two meetings between the squads, most recently a 5-2 victory in 2019.
