Hokies fall to Baylor 90-48 Tuesday night in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

SAN ANTONIO – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team fell to two seed Baylor 90-48 Tuesday night in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the 2020-21 season at 15-10. Tech was led in the game by Georgia Amoore who scored 18 points and Aisha Sheppard was the only other Hokie in double figures with 15 in the game.
 
Baylor (27-2) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening minutes before Cayla King hit a 3-pointer to help the Hokies find their footing in the game. King would hit another triple as did D'Asia Gregg, to make up Tech's only field goals in the opening quarter.
 
The Bears extended their lead with runs in the second quarter, getting baskets from multiple players who finished in double figures. At half, they led 44-20 and owned a large disparity in field goal percentage (50 to 26) and rebounds (26-13).
 
After the break Tech tried to mount a comeback with Sheppard featuring more heavily into the offense, and Amoore looking for her shot, but each run was met by the Bears.
 
Baylor was led in scoring by Moon Ursin and Dijonai Carrington who each scored 21.
 
The Hokies were outrebounded 53-23 in the contest.
 
GAME NOTES
•Virginia Tech is now 0-1 against Baylor.
•Kenny Brooks' record moves to 101-59 at Virginia Tech and 438-181 in his career.
•Tech is 1-3 all-time on March 23 and are 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament on that date.
•The starting lineup of Georgia Amoore, Aisha Sheppard, Cayla King, Azana Baines and Elizabeth Kitley accounted for 45 points.
•Center Elizabeth Kitley's six points were a season low. She was 2-for-12 from the field.
