BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 8 Georgia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Hokies (4-10, 0-7 ACC) put up a strong performance in doubles. Junior Rita Pinto and graduate student Shene Disbergen defeated Sophia Sassoli and Ava Hrastar, 6-4. The No. 58 duo of Elizabet Danailova and Nika Kozar put up a tough fight against the No. 5 duo of Kenya Jones and Victoria Flores on Court 1, but eventually fell 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets (12-7, 5-3 ACC) fielded three ranked players in the singles portion and clinched the match on Court 3, Court 2, and Court 1. On Court 5, freshman Katie Andreini played in a gritty match and ultimately defeated Carol Lee in a third set tiebreaker 6-3, 2-6, 1-0.
The Hokies will return to the court Sunday to face Clemson (6-11, 0-7 ACC) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
