Tech closed the regular season winning six of their final seven contests, finishing as the hottest team in the conference after a slow start. Along the way, the Hokies won six in a row, a first for their time in the ACC and each game featured 70 or more points, also the first such streak.
The Hokies featured a dynamic duo in First Team All-ACC talents Elizabeth Kitley and Aisha Sheppard. They were second and third in the league in scoring, respectively.
A unanimous All-ACC First Team selection, Sheppard scored 20 or more points in nine contests this season, second-most behind ACC Player of the Year Dana Evans and like Evans, scored in double figures in every regular season contest prior to playing the conference tournament in Greensboro.
The Alexandria, Virginia native averaged 18.3 points per game and scored 85 3-pointers breaking her own school record for most in a single season. Her career total of 304 ranks first in Virginia Tech history and is eighth all-time for an ACC player. Sheppard's 1,423 points is the eighth-most by a Hokie.
She also had a career season in terms of free throw shooting (79 of 93) and assists where she averaged a career-high 3.1 per contest.
Kitley ranks among the top four in the league in points, rebounds, field goal percentage, blocks and free throws, in addition to leading the conference in double-doubles with 13.
The Summerfield, North Carolina native is the only ACC athlete to register two 30-point scoring games this season and was one of two players to record a 20-rebound game, which she did in a contest vs. Wake Forest where she tied a school record with 21.
She was recognized as the ACC's Co-Player of the Week on January 18 and recorded six games of 20 or more points this season.
