Tech concludes play at Pinehurst No. 2

PINEHURST, N.C. — Graduate student Mark Lawrence Jr. tied for 22nd to pace the Virginia Tech men's golf team at the Wake Forest Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by the Demon Deacons, March 1-2, at historic Pinehurst No. 2.
 
Five teams entered the tournament ranked in the nation's Top-50, including team champion Wake Forest. The second-ranked Demon Deacons posted a nine-shot victory over 13th-ranked North Carolina. Wake led wire-to-wire in finishing the event at 6-under 834.
 
In the individual race, Wake's Michael Brennan totaled a 5-under 205 to edge a pair of golfers by one stroke.
 
The Hokies are back in action in a couple weeks when they travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the General Hackler Intercollegiate. Coastal Carolina will host the three-day event at The Dunes Club, March 14-16.
