Hokies host two matches in Cassell

BLACKSBURG – In its first home matches of the spring slate, the Virginia Tech volleyball team will host No. 23 Georgia Tech on Friday and Syracuse on Sunday with both matches taking place at 1 p.m. ET inside Cassell Coliseum. Coverage will be available through the ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies, led by Marci Byers in her first season have garnered key victories thus far through the year. Tech notched the season-sweep over in-state rival Virginia back in October. The Hokies also recorded wins over No. 14 Duke in Cameron Indoor and North Carolina in Cassell Coliseum. All these victories have the program off to a strong start under Byers.
 
No. 23 Georgia Tech, led by head coach Michelle Collier sits at 9-2 on the season with all their matches being in conference. Collier is in her sixth season at the helm for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech is coming off of a 3-0 victory against Boston College as it has won nine of their last ten. 
 
Syracuse has an overall record of 5-5 with every match being played against ACC opponents. The Orange have won four of their last five outings with a two-game sweep over Boston College and a victory over Clemson. Syracuse is led by Leonid Yelin who is in his ninth season at Syracuse and has over 600 career victories.
 
 
NUMBERS TO KNOW FROM LAST WEEKEND
 

  • With Smith's double-double against Florida State, the outside hitter now has 29 double-doubles in her career and seven total on the season. 

 

  • Last weekend, outside hitter Homan, recorded her third double-double on the season.

 

  • Setter Brie Postema tallied 21 assists against Florida State and now leads Tech in assists with 182 on the season. 

 

  • Junior Sarah Jane Lynch notched a new career high of 13 digs against Florida State.
