Virginia Tech guard Aisha Sheppard added to her postseason award haul Wednesday, as the Associated Press named her an honorable mention All-American. Sheppard becomes just the fourth Hokie to ever garner the accolade and the first since 1999.
A unanimous All-ACC First Team selection, Sheppard scored 20 or more points in nine contests this season, second-most behind ACC Player of the Year Dana Evans and like Evans, scored in double figures in every regular season contest prior to playing the conference tournament in Greensboro.
The Alexandria, Virginia native averaged 18.3 points per game and scored 85 3-pointers breaking her own school record for most in a single season. Her career total of 304 ranks first in Virginia Tech history and is eighth all-time for an ACC player. Sheppard's 1,423 points is the eighth-most by a Hokie.
She also had a career season in terms of free throw shooting (79 of 93) and assists where she averaged a career-high 3.1 per contest.
The Hokies have arrived in San Antonio and will begin their testing protocols in order to participate in the NCAA Tournament.
Tech, a seven seed will play tenth-seeded Marquette on Sunday, March 21 at noon Eastern on ESPNU.
