BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Radford, 6-1, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
The Hokies (4-9, 0-6 ACC) started the day off with a quick match on Court 1, where the No. 58 pair of seniors Nika Kozar and Elizabet Danailova earned a 6-1 win. The Highlanders (2-5) claimed the match on Court 2. Sophomores Chhinda Som and Erika Cheng ultimately clinched the doubles point for Tech with a 6-4 win on Court 3.
Tech doubled its lead when freshman Katie Andreini dominated on Court 4, winning 6-0, 6-1. Cheng added to the Hokies lead with another strong performance for Tech, winning 6-2, 6-0 on Court 5. The match was clinched for the Hokies when junior Annie Clark came back from a 3-5 deficit in the second set to win 6-2, 7-5 on Court 6.
After dropping the first set, Kozar added to the Hokies lead with a 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 comeback win on Court 2 and freshman Tamara Barad Itzhaki pulled through on Court 1 with a 6-4, 7-6 victory.
The Hokies will return to the court Saturday to face Georgia Tech (11-7, 4-3) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
