Tech falls to ODU

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Old Dominion this afternoon.

In a well fought doubles slate, seniors Nika Kozar and Elizabet Danailova, the No. 58 pair in the country, fell to the No. 8 duo of Yulia Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich.

The Hokies (1-2) struggled to pick up any momentum against the Monarchs (2-3) in singles.

Senior Nina Sorkin gave Tech some life on Court 5, winning a first set tiebreak before putting her foot on the gas in the second, ultimately earning a 7-6(3), 6-0 victory.

Freshman Sabina Richtrova showed resiliency on Court 4 and battled to a three set win, decided by a 10-point tiebreak, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(4).

Tech will return to the floor next Saturday to host Furman.
