BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team defeated MTSU in decisive fashion today with a 4-1 result.
Doubles action was tightly contested between the Hokies (2-2) and the Blue Raiders (4-3) throughout the morning, as two of the three matches were settled in a tiebreak.
A new tandem, graduated student Alex Ribeiro and senior Ryan Kros, grabbed a win on Court 1 against Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump, 7-5. Sophomore Matthis Ross and freshman Hugo Maia went down to the wire, but eventually downed Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha, 7-6(4).
The Hokies wrapped up the match in quick manner during the singles slate. Freshman Ryan Fishback continued his strong start to the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Pavel Motl. Ross had a fiery performance on Court 2, winning the first set tiebreak then handling Slump in the second set, winning 7-6, 6-3. Ribeiro wrapped up the day for Tech on Court 3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rocha.
Tech will return to the floor next Saturday to host Davidson.
