BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech begins its sixth season of women's golf competition when the Hokies tee-it-up at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate, Feb. 7-9, at the par 72, 6,281-yard The Founders Golf Club in Sarasota, Fla.

Tech joins three other ACC programs (Clemson, NC State and Notre Dame) in the 15-team field hosted by Purdue. Fourth-ranked Ole Miss headlines six teams, who enter the week nationally ranked. No. 6 Georgia, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 33 Iowa State are also scheduled to compete. ACC and Big Ten teams are not currently ranked due to not playing in the fall.

The Hokies, who ascended to as high as No. 20 in the Golfstat.com rankings last season, are poised to continue their upward trajectory. Emily Mahar returns for her senior season. The Brisbane, Australia native enters the 2021 season with a 73.52 career scoring average – best in program history. Mahar won the 2020 Golfweek Caledonia Amateur in a playoff in September – her second individual title as a collegiate golfer.

Becca DiNunzio, who was named the 2020 VSGA Women's Golfer of the Year in December, looks to build upon her strong play of late. The sophomore posted four top-20 finishes while playing as an individual last fall. Jessica Spicer, Alyssa Montgomery and Keerattriya Foocharoen will also be competing this week for the Hokies.

The three-day event begins Sunday with an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start. Tech will be paired with Minnesota and Texas Tech for the opening round.
