CONWAY, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory against Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. on Sunday afternoon.
In its first outing of the spring portion of the season, Tech (4-2-2) spent the first 20 minutes dominating possession, but could not string together the last few pieces together. However, when the opportunity came, the Hokies were prepared to bounce. Senior Jacob Labovitz opened the scoring for the Hokies when he capitalized off the miscommunication between Coastal's (6-2-0) back line and keeper to slot home a goal on an open net in the 26th minute.
In the second half, most of the opportunities fell to the home side, but again, the Hokies found a way to get in behind and create a chance. A challenge on Daniel Starr in the box by Coastal's keeper led to a 57th minute penalty that junior Sivert Haugli was able to slot home.
Tech was able to fend off the attack of the Chanticleers for the remainder of the half and secure the 2-0 win.
The Hokies will resume league play against Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Thompson Field.
