BLACKSBURG – The No. 15 Virginia Tech lacrosse team traveled to No. 12 Virginia Saturday for a ranked matchup against the Cavaliers, and fell 12-10 despite a season-best 12 saves from Angie Benson and multiple athletes recording hat tricks. Tech's record moves to 2-2 (0-2).
Virginia, (2-0, 1-0) scored the game's first goal in a back and forth first period that saw the Hokies go in front briefly 4-3 following Paige Tyson's first career goal.
At halftime, the margin was 8-6 in favor of the Cavaliers.
In the second frame, Virginia once again scored quickly through Ashlyn McGovern before Paige Petty got the Hokies on the board. She would finish the game with three goals, her first hat trick of the 2021 season.
Virginia was led by three goals from McGovern and three from Annie Dyson.

•Tech continued the clear the ball well converting 21 of 22 opportunities.
•The Hokies were quicker to ground balls all day, securing 18 the Cavs' nine.
