BLACKSBURG – Coming off a big win against Radford, Virginia Tech baseball travels to No. 6 Miami (Fla.) to open ACC play with a three-game series starting on Friday at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field with all games being broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (3-0) and Hurricanes (2-1) will meet for the first time since 2019. Miami leads the all-time series 37-8 while Tech is 2-22 at Miami.

Tech has lost 11 in a row to the 'Canes, dating back to March 12, 2016.

A win this weekend would be coach John Szefc's first win over Miami and his first ranked win since March 9, 2019 against No. 1 Florida State.

ON THE CALL

The matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Joe Zagacki (play-by-play) and Wicho Hernandez (analyst) on the call Friday and Sunday, and Zagacki (play-by-play) and Kyle Sielaff (analyst) on the call Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies dominated their first midweek series of the season, defeating neighbor Radford 22-2. TJ Rumfield led the pack with two homers and five RBIs. Tech recorded 18 runs in the last three innings with two home runs from Cade Hunter and Rumfield. Tech offense posted 17 on the day while pitchers recorded 12 strikeouts.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Rumfield, a Texas Tech transfer, started off with a bang in his first three games as a Hokie. After struggling in Game 1 against Kent State, he recorded a hit and a run in Game 2, including a double. Rumfield posted three hits against Radford, all of which were extra-base hits. He also posted a career-high 5 RBIs against the Highlanders.
