Hokies down JMU at home, 5-2

BLACKSBURG-- The Virginia Tech men's tennis team defeated JMU in convincing fashion today with a 5-2 result.
 
Doubles action was tightly contested between the Hokies and the Dukes throughout the afternoon, as the game-clinching match came down to a tiebreaker won by the Dukes.
 
Freshman Ryan Fishback and sophomore Jordan Chrysostom dominated Court 2 with a 6-2 win over Gonzalo Adis and Alvaro Arce. Senior Ryan Kros and graduate student Alex Ribeiro went down to the wire, but eventually fell to Holden Koons and Paul Mendoza.
 
Despite losing the doubles point, the Hokies wrapped up the match in a quick manner during the singles slate. Undefeated freshman Hugo Maia kept up his winning ways to put Tech on the board with a win over Paul Mendoza on Court 4. Freshman Alvaro Ariza had a dominating performance on Court 6 sweeping the sets 6-1, 6-1 over Mario Pena. Ribeiro clinched the win for Tech on Court 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Alvaro Arce. Fishback continued his strong start to the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Oscar Hernandez.
 
The Hokies will hit the road this Friday to face Wake Forest.
