WEYMOUTH, MASS. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team earned a decisive 7-0 victory today against Boston College to open up ACC play.
The Hokies (4-2) started off strong against the Eagles (0-2) in the doubles portion of the match and didn't look back. Sophomore Matthis Ross and freshman Hugo Maia teamed up on Court 3 to win 6-2, followed by graduate student Mitch Harper and sophomore Jordan Chrysostom earning the same result on Court 2.
Freshman Ryan Fishback put on a near-perfect performance on Court 5, winning 6-0, 6-1. In his second outing of the season in singles, No. 38 Harper won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The match was clinched on Court 4 when Maia continued his stellar start to his career with 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Senior Carlo Donato kept it rolling for the Hokies with a win on Court 3 and freshman Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza joined the win column with his performance on Court 6. Ross wrapped up the day for Tech with a three set battle on Court 2, where he fought back after dropping the first set, ultimately securing the Hokies' shutout.
The Hokies will be back in action on Wednesday at 2 p.m. to host JMU.
